
The Dominican Republic received an upgrade in the US State Department Travel Advisory recommendations due to Covid-19 on 14 June 2021. The country was upgraded from the Level 4 Do Not Travel recommendation to a Level 3 Reconsider Travel recommendation.
The US State Department has 4 travel advisory levels. The statements regarding Covid-19 are issued in coordination with the Center for Disease Control. These are:
- Exercise normal precautions
- Exercise increased cautions
- Reconsider travel
- Do not travel
The DR is now at Level 3: Reconsider travel to the Dominican Republic due to Covid-19.
The announcement comes at a time when around two million people have the full doses of Covid-19 vaccine, and more than 4.25 million have at least the first dose. The National Vaccination Plan has a pace so that more than 60% of the population should be fully vaccinated by August 2021.
