US government donation to help store Judicial Branch data in the cloud

The Judicial Branch received a donation for the digital storage and backup of its data from the US Embassy.

The counselor of the Judicial Power, judge Bionni Zayas Ledesma said the donation makes possible a gigantic step towards the digital transformation of the justice system.

The Acting Minister-Counselor of the US Embassy, William Swaney, highlighted that the donation from the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the US government provides a secure storage system to share, back up and quickly retrieve electronic documents. “This project will help the Dominican judicial system improve its effectiveness and strengthen accountability and transparency in its interaction with other agencies of the Dominican judicial sector,” he said.

Welvis Beltrán, director of Information Technology for the Judicial Branch, said that the donation makes possible a high-tech ecosystem that will become the heart of the Judicial Branch cloud, allowing the entire process of digitization of documents and processes, as well as electronic documentation to remain in a state-of-the-art data repository.

This initiative is part of the Judicial Branch’s Strategic Plan Vision Justice 20/24, which establishes an efficient and reliable justice service supported by technology and communications.
