
President Luis Abinader was in Pedro Brand in northern Santo Domingo for the inauguration of the expansion of the PepsiCo Caribe Plant, with an investment of US$30 million. The plant is located in the Duarte 2 Industrial Park.
At the inauguration, President Abinader said he favors actions of the ministries of Agriculture and Industry and Commerce and the governmental Agriculture Bank to back the local production. He made the announcement when participating in the expansion of the PepsiCo Frito Lay Dominicana snacks production plant. The company at present uses both locally produced and imported potatoes. It sources plantains and yucca from local farmers.
As reported, at present the company purchases potatoes, plantains and yucca (casava) from farmers in Constanza, Moca, La Vega and La Canela, that produce on average more than 9,000 tons of potatoes, plantains and yuca in an average of more than 450 hectares.
The company has capacity to produce 10.9 million Frito Lay snack units every month.
The company has been operating in the Dominican Republic since 1992.
