Ramón Alburquerque, a member of the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) had recommended President Luis Abinader to place Presidency Minister Lisandro Macarrulla on leave of absence as prosecutors advance in the investigations into contracting regarding the New Victoria (La Parra) jail.
Meanwhile, Macarrulla denies wrongdoings of family companies and said that he is the object of a systematic defamation campaign. He says he is available for investigations required by the prosecution authorities.
Ethics director, former Vice President Milagros Ortiz Bosch, says she spoke with Macarrulla extensively on the topic some four months ago when the first investigations carried out by state prosecutors indicated companies related to him had done contract work with the new jail.
Meanwhile, on Esta Noche con Mariasela, hosts Mariasela Alvarez and co-host Diana Lora encouraged Macarrulla to present to the general public evidence that would clear his participation or that of his family in Nueva Victoria Jail (La Parra) contracting.
Altagracia Salazar says the minister should have put his cards on the table and given an explanation. She says the minister should have called a press conference to give the explanation on how companies related to him participated in the jail construction, if they did.
Guido Gomez Mazara, who has submitted many of the investigations and claims of corruption of the past authorities now carried by the Attorney General Office, says the son of Macarrulla, not himself, is who is under investigation.
