Grace causes multiple flight cancellations, street flooding, damage to aqueducts

Grace would have been a tropical storm, then it became a tropical depression. At the end, the storm brought lots of rain that caused street flooding, damaged aqueducts and forced the evacuation of hundreds.

It did cause the cancellation of several flights out of Las Americas International Airport. Airport activity was back to normal mid-morning of Monday, 16 August 2021, as the storm moved west.

JetBlue, Spirit, Frontier, Venezolana, Silver Airways and American Airlines reported cancellations or delays.

The storm brought flooding from Santo Domingo to Barahona, and other cities where drainages proved again deficient. The consistent rains also caused damages to aqueducts nationwide.

Grace passed by, coinciding with a long weekend in the Dominican Republic. Acento reported hotels and resorts continued operating at high occupancies despite the storm.

The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) announced the discontinuing of the warning and watches for the storm, but urged care because the light rains would continue through Thursday nationwide.
