Covid-19 declines in the National District even without curfew

The removal of curfew has not resulted in a spike of cases in the capital city. 14 days after the elimination of curfew in the National District, the positivity, number of active cases and number of new registered cases continue on a general downward trend. The number of deaths is also on the decline, with several consecutive days of no deaths.

The declines are attributed to the successes of the National Vaccination Plan. Nevertheless, the number of persons getting vaccinated has plummeted and the government is taking the vaccination plan door to door in areas with relatively low vaccination levels. Several major urban areas are on the list of areas of concern, including Santiago, San Cristobal and Santo Domingo East with two dose vaccination levels under 50%.

The government is also closely monitoring to take quick actions once the fast-spreading Delta variant is detected circulating in the country.
