A combination of Sahara Dust and summer heat is bringing humid and sweltering days and nights to most of the Dominican Republic as of 30 August 2021.
Weather and health authorities recommend people to wear light clothing, use sunscreen and drink lots of water to better survive the heatwave and humid conditions. The public health authorities also recommends mopping floors first with water before sweeping to avoid the dispersing of Sahara dust that may have fallen on the floor. The Ministry of Public Health says that the dust can cause temporary eye irritation and recommends frequent face washing and the use of protective glasses and hydrating eye drops.
Persons that suffer from asthma and allergies should wear facial masks and take other measures that are already recommended to avoid the spread of Covid-19.
The effects of a tropical wave in the area are expected to be felt by Wednesday and Thursday, bringing short rain bursts mainly to the southwest, border provinces and Central Mountain Range.
