Two-day doctor strike: 8 and 9 September

An estimated 4 million people will be affected by the suspension of medical services to insurance plan affiliates in the Dominican Republic.

The Dominican Medical Association (CMD) confirmed that Dominican Medical Association (CMD) affiliated physicians will not accept ARS insurance plans on 8 and 9 September 2021. The association is protesting the low fees the medical insurance intermediaries pay the doctors.

The National Council of Specialized Medical Societies is backing the call. Representatives of the medical societies and the Medical Association said they met on Thursday, 2 September 2021 with the authorities of the Labor and Public Health ministries and the Superintendence of Health and Labor Risks with no positive results.

“Faced with this position, we reiterate once again the rejection of this pyrrhic increase of 11% in compensation to the physicians. In this sense, we have no other alternative but to ratify the call for a 48-hour national strike for 48 hours,” concluded the representatives of the CMD. The strike affects both public and private medical services.
