The president of the Dominican Medical Association calls for DR to be the first to vaccinate young children

Dr. Waldo Ariel Suero, president of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD), favors that the Dominican government authorize children 5 to 11 years to be vaccinated. Dr Suero says that it is unlikely that physical distancing will be able to be respected when in many public schools the classrooms are of 45 children. Public schools nationwide resumed in-person learning on 20 September 2021. Private schools started earlier.

The Dominican Republic early on approved the use of the Pfizer vaccine for children 12 years old. The Dominican Republic was also first to approve the use of the Pfizer booster for those who had received two jabs of Sinovac or AstraZeneca vaccine.

In Chile, the Catholic University is carrying out a study with 4,000 children aged 3 to 17 to study the effects of the Sinovac vaccine on them.

The Dominican government has sufficient Sinovac or Pfizer vaccine stocks to inoculate children of all ages. Both Pfizer and Sinovac say their vaccines are safe for young children. Pfizer has produced a modified vaccine for younger children.
