National District mayor Carolina Mejía is participating with 37 other mayors worldwide in the Harvard and Bloomberg Cities Leadership Initiative educational program.
“This program will allow us to expand our capacity for teamwork and leadership in these areas and connect with other mayors with innovative ideas for similar issues in their cities”, Mejía explains in a press release.
The management course for mayors will last for a year and was launched on Sunday, 26 September 2021 in New York with the attendance of the mayors from around the world.
The sessions focus on best management and leadership practices, using the case methodology and workshops developed at Harvard University, according to a note from the capital city government. The mayor’s office says the management course does not represent a cost for the city government.
Michael R. Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg Philanthropies and three-time mayor of New York City, has helped prepare the management course collaborating with Harvard University. Launched in 2017, the initiative has worked with 400 mayors and 1,300 senior officials in 478 cities around the world.
The Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative offers a robust leadership development experience for mayors and senior members of their teams to foster their professional growth and advance key practices and capabilities in city halls worldwide.
