Biviana Riveiro Disla, executive director of the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana), highlighted the interest in Dominican exports shown by Russians attending the WorldFood Moscow trade show. The event was held 21 to 24 September 2021.
WorldFood Moscow is the most important exhibition and conference for the food and beverage industry in Russia. The Dominican Republic participated for the first time, accepting an invitation of the organizing company Hyve Group.
The Dominican Republic pavilion exhibited mangoes, pineapple, avocado, frozen pulp, cocoa powder, marmalades, coffee, rum, soda crackers, among others.
Riveiro valued the opportunity that Russia represents for Dominican exports: “The diversity of the Russian market opens endless possibilities for the goods and services of our exporters. It is expected that trade exchanges will increase exponentially now that new direct commercial and cargo flights are starting from the DR to Russia.”
The Dominican Republic’s trade exchange with Russia between 2015 and July 2021 amounts to US$664.0 million. Of this, Dominican exports represented 8.9%. During this fair, commercial approaches were made with the exporters present, achieving an expectation of business already confirmed at close to US$6 million.
During the fair, ProDominicana’s export team met with exporters and investors and the general director of the National Committee for Economic Cooperation with Latin American Countries (CN CEPLA), Tatiana Moshkova. ProDominicana representatives also visited the Green Fields company, Russia’s largest importer of exotic fruits. They are currently doing business with Dominican exporters of mango and pineapple.
During WorldFood Moscow, the DR exhibited products from more than 15 Dominican companies including: Ely Import & Export, ProAgroDominicana, Dominican Association of Rum Producers (ADOPRON), Industrias Banilejas (INDUBAN), Fruitganic, Sylvan Foods, Azukar Gourmet, Color Café, Baldom, Bon Agroindustrial, Little Island Honey, Definite Chocolat, Grupo Bocel, Hey Shuga, José Lantigua Export, Freshpack Agricultural Products.
