PLD: Abinader must explain offshore companies he did not include in his tax return

The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) has issued a statement demanding that President Luis Abinader explain offshore companies the party says he did not include in his wealth declaration. In a press conference, PLD Charlie Mariotti and Temístocles Montás, secretary-general and vice president of the leading opposition party, indicate that Abinader has placed a large part of his assets in tax havens to evade tax responsibilities.

The PLD specifies that the companies Littiecot Inc. and Padreso S.A. were not included in President Abinader’s declaration of assets.

According to a communiqué from the Presidency of the Republic, released on Monday, 4 October 2021 in a paid advertisement, these companies were included in the patrimony declared by President Abinader in his sworn declaration of assets.

The PLD says the offshore companies included in section 5.3 of the President’s sworn declaration of assets are Savoy Investing, LTD and Estela Corporation, incorporated in the British Virgin Islands and Coral Gardens Development, Inc. incorporated in Panama.

At the end of the press conference, the secretary-general did not remain to answer to journalist questions.

The offshore companies are making headline after the Pandora Papers investigation results have been circulating in media around the world. TV journalist Alicia Ortega presented the cases of Dominicans that appear in the Pandora Papers.
