
The Dominican Republic and Costa Rica are jointly developing action plans under the framework of the First Bilateral Cooperation Program 2021-2023.
The Vice Minister of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Economy Olaya Ondina Dotel Caraballo explains the intent is to strengthen cooperation ties in the areas of environmental sustainability, climate change and risk management, agricultural development and education.
Also participating were the director of Bilateral Cooperation, Rosanna Arias, and the director of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Relations, José Luis Morillo.
Costa Rica director of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica, Ambassador Rita Hernández Bolaños attended as head of the delegation. She was accompanied by Luis Diego Garro Montoya, chargé d’affaires at the Embassy of Costa Rica in the Dominican Republic and Magda Rojas Castillo, head of South America and the Caribbean of the Costa Rica Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Saskia Rodríguez Steichen, manager of the International Cooperation Area of the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Policy, participated virtually.
Dotel Caraballo added that this meeting constitutes a milestone in the strengthening of cooperation relations between the two countries in a complex regional and global context caused by the COVID-19 health crisis, and which has made it clear that nations must continue to join efforts to address the constraints and difficulties that affect the development of peoples.
The first Bilateral Program consisted of a total of seven agreed bilateral projects, four requested by the Dominican Republic and three requested by the Republic of Costa Rica.
The sectoral entities participating on the Dominican side were: National Environmental Protection Service (SENPA), Ministry of Environment), Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture, National Council for Climate Change and Clean Development Mechanism (CNCCMDL), and the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage (Inapa). Participating for Costa Ric were: Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE), National Forestry Financing Fund (FONAFIFO), National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC), Ministry of Public Education (MEP), Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) & State Phytosanitary Service (SFE), and the Costa Rican Institute of Aqueducts and Sewerage (AyA).
