Puerto Plata Summit: Ministry of Industry & Commerce leads business effort

Industry & Commerce Minister Victor (Ito) Bisonó hosted his colleague Ramón Martínez of Panama and missions of business people that came accompanying the heads of state of Costa Rica and Panama that participated in the Puerto Plata Summit under the new Alliance for Development in Democracy.

During the event, the also visiting president of the Corporación Andina de Fomento, Sergio Díaz Granado announced that some US$28 billion will be made available to boost the region’s development, strengthen trade through nearshoring and facilitate post-pandemic economic recovery.

The announcement was made within the framework of the high-level meeting that brought together the presidents of Costa Rica, Panama and Dominican Republic, members of the new Alliance for Development in Democracy.

At a press conference, led by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Víctor (Ito) Bisonó, Minister Ramón Martínez of Panama, the president of the Corporación Andina de Fomento, Sergio Díaz Granado, stated that the intention is to take advantage of the commercial strengths of each of the countries to attract more investments, motivated by the reordering of global supply chains.

The strategic alliances also include new support for the installation of industries dedicated to the development of medical devices, MSMEs, mainly led by women, and the tourism industry.
