Eight Dominicans now said to have died in Chiapas tragedy

Dominican media continue to follow up on the freight truck accident in Mexico with at least eight Dominicans now identified to have died when the truck overturned on a curve in Chiapas. The Dominicans were mainly young people from the provinces of Peravia and Azua that had paid thousands of dollars to make the illegal trip to the United States via Mexico. Listin Diario reports that the mother of one in Peravia died of a heart attack upon learning of the death of her child.

A report in El Dia indicates that Mexican drug trafficking cartels also deal in people smuggling. These are the contacts used by the Dominicans that pay the millionaire sums for a ticket to the United States.
