Christmas safety program announced

Major General Juan Manuel Méndez García, the director of the Center for Emergency Operations (COE) announced the traditional Christmas and New Year safety programs. The program is to be known this year as: “Conciencia por la Vida, Navidad y Año Nuevo 2021-2022.”

During a press conference held on 15 December 2021, Mendez García said that the first phase will run from 2pm on Thursday, 23 December until Christmas Day, 25 December at 6pm. The second phase will be from 2pm on Thursday, 30 December until 2 January at 6pm.

During the safe Christmas operations actions are taken to reduce traffic accidents, food poisoning and drunk driving and alcohol intoxication.

Some 41,237 people will be part of the operation. Likewise, 1,237 assistance posts will be stationed in critical places nationwide. Likewise, 195 ambulances, three helicopters, 16 vehicle extraction teams, 73 rescue units, two pre-hospital care centers and 19 mobile workshops are being distributed to service the population during the peak days of the Christmas holidays.

Heavy truck transit is banned over the holidays.
