General Julio Camilo de los Santos Viola is remanded 18 months in custody in Coral 5G case

National District judge Kenya Romero ruled that General Julio de los Santos Viola serve 18 months of preventive custody in Najayo Jail. He is implicated in the Coral 5G case, along with other military officers.

De los Santos Viola was the number two in command at the Specialized Security Corps at the Presidency (Cusep). He head the Cusep when his boss, Major General Adam Cáceres was sent to preventive custody in Najayo accused of major irregularities when in office.

De los Santos Viola’s defense lawyers had recused judge Romero twice, delaying his arraignment.

The others named in the Coral 5G case and who have already been given coercive measures are generals Boanerges Reyes Batista (Army) and Juan Carlos Torres Robiou (Air Fore), as well as Major José Manuel Rosario Pirón (National Police), Captain Franklin Antonio Mata Flores (Army) and Colonel Yehudy Blandesmil Guzmán Alcántara (Air Force).

Also Miguel Ventura Pichardo (Air Force), Esmeralda Ortega Polanco, César Félix Ramos Ovalle, first lieutenant Jehohanan Lucía Rodríguez Jiménez, lieutenant colonel Erasmo Roger Pérez Núñez (Air Force). Others that have received preventive measures are colonel Carlos Augusto Lantigua Cruz (Air Force) and lieutenant Colonel Kelman Santana Martínez (Army) periodic presentation and impediment to leave the country.
