Deadline expires for undocumented workers

Juan Manuel Rosario, deputy minister of the Ministry of Interior & Police, says that the grace period for the regularization of foreign workers has expired. He said that companies are now subject to fines of five to 30 minimum wages for employees that violate the ultimatum given by the National Migration Council of the Ministry of Interior & Police. The Abinader administration had given companies three months as of 28 September 2021 to regularize their work force. The government seeks to comply with Migration Law 285-04 and Art. 135 of the Labor Code that orders that foreigners can not be more than 20% of the total workforce of a company.
