
Estrellas fans cheered the players of the San Pedro de Macoris team as batters delivered the first win of the 7-4 series.
The Estrellas Orientales won game one of the playoffs on Monday, 18 January 2022. The score was a tight 5-4 over the Gigantes del Cibao. The teams battled it out taking the game to 11 innings at the Tetelo Vargas Stadium. At the end, Gustavo Núñez is credited with the winning run when he attempted a steal and benefited from a bad throw of Giants’ catcher Webster Rivas.
Núñez tied the game 4-4 in the ninth in the ninth inning with a single to left field against the Gigantes’ star closer, Juan Minaya.
The game had started at 8:06pm and ended at 12:46am.
The playoffs now move to the Julián Javier Stadium in San Francisco de Macorís for game two.
