Concacaf unveils Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico as hosts for Caribbean club comps

Concacaf announced the Dominican Republic will be the centralized host for its Caribbean Club Championship, to take place 13 to 25 May 2022 in the Dominican Republic, as reported by Inside World Football.

The Caribbean Club Championship is the confederation’s leading club competition in the Caribbean region for professional club sides and qualifies one team for the Concacaf Champions League and two for the Concacaf League.

Concacaf has also announced Puerto Rico as the host for its Caribbean Club Shield Competition, 15-24 April. This competition is targeted at the Caribbean region’s leading amateur sides and offers the champions a qualification to the Concacaf League.

This will be the fourth edition of the Caribbean Club Shield with the six clubs qualified being Atlético Vega Real (DOM), Cibao FC (DOM), Arcahaie FC (HAI), Violette Athletic Club (HAI), Cavalier SC (JAM) and Waterhouse FC (JAM).

Teams will play in two groups of three with the top two in each group going through to semi-finals. The champion will qualify for the 2023 Champions League, while the second and third place finishers will participate in the 2022 Concacaf League.

There will also be an additional play-in match for the Concacaf League on May 24, between the fourth-place finisher in the Caribbean Club Championship and the Caribbean Club Shield Champion.

The Caribbean Club Shield will feature 13 clubs from 13 Caribbean Member Associations: Deportivo Nacional (Aruba), SV Real Rincon (Bonaire), Scholars International SC (Cayman Islands), CRKSV Jong Holland (Curaçao), Southeast FC (Dominica), AS Gosier (Guadeloupe), Golden Lion (Martinique), Bayamon FC (Puerto Rico), Platinum FC (Saint Lucia), Junior Stars FC (Saint Martin), Flames United SC (Sint Maarten), Inter Moengo Tapoe (Suriname) and SWA Sharks FC (Turks and Caicos Islands).

The competition is a key development platform for nations who are working with Concacaf towards the long term objective of professionalizing the club game in the region.
The teams will play in three groups of three and one group of four with the four group winners qualifying for the semi-finals.
