
The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Public Health officially began the vaccinating in public schools of children 5 to 11 years old. The vaccinations require the written consent of the parents or guardians.
The government announced the program began with vaccination stations at 388 public schools and 12,000 children were vaccinated on day one.
The Ministry of Public Health reports the program will be in place at the public schools for six months. The target population is 1,236,644 children. Parents can also take their children to any of the 1,300 regular vaccination stations to get the jab.
The Chinese-made Sinovac-Coronavac vaccine is being used for the young children. The children are scheduled to get a first dose and a second one, 28 days later.
The Pfizer vaccine had been used to vaccinate children 12+. Most public and private schools made mandatory the vaccines for children and teachers at public and private schools that reopened for in-person learning in September 2021.
