Calling out to German tourists to come and enjoy; RKI gives green light to travel

Germany has removed the Dominican Republic from its list of high-risk countries due to Covid-19. The German government agency responsible for disease prevention and control, Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on 12 February that the country is no longer seen as a country reporting high infection rates. Travelers from high-risk areas must present proof of vaccination or recovery to be permitted entry to Germany, and in some cases, isolation rules apply.

In the Americas, countries also recently removed from the requirement were: Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Jamaica, Canada, Cuba, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Travelers from these areas can now travel to Germany under facilitated rules, provided that they hold one of the accepted certificates.

Travellers who plan on travelling to Germany should note that the country has imposed new rules on the vaccination certificates’ validity. Germany now recognises vaccination certificates only if the document indicates that the holder has completed primary vaccination within the last 270 days and if the holder has received a booster shot.
