Expansion works at Punta Cana International: Terminal B

Punta Cana International Airport is advancing on the expansion of its Terminal B that caters to US travelers. An investment of US$80 million is in the works to extend the airport capacity to handle 3 million passengers.

The expansion of Terminal B is part of a project that covers an area of approximately 25,000 m² and will have seven gates and seven air bridges. The construction of the expansion is in the hands of local architects and engineers. Construction is expected to be completed by November 2022, in time for the winter season.

Terminal B is being readied to accommodate the US Immigration and Customs pre-clearance service. Frank Rainieri Kuret, CEO of Grupo Punta Cana, spoke of the competitive edge the pre-checking service will provide to efforts to attract more tourists and investment to the Dominican Republic.

On Sunday, 21 February 2022, the Punta Cana Group announced works to build the Punta Cana Free Trade Zone, adjacent to the Punta Cana International Airport. The PCFTZ will house cargo logistics operations and offices for the development of the Punta Cana Hub for the innovation and development of fintech companies. The PCFTZ calls for a US$200 million investment.

“This work will undoubtedly have a great impact on the economy because of the stimulus it will bring to the growth of tourism, but also agricultural and industrial exports, the creation of new business and investment opportunities, the generation of jobs and a whole value chain that is favored,” Rainieri Kuret said in making the announcement.
