The Dominican Republic handed over on Wednesday, 2 March 2022 to Haitian authorities Philome Tanis, a Haitian Police agent wanted by the Haitian Police for questioning in connection with the assassination of the late Haitian President Jovenel Moise.

The capture of the former member of the security of the late president took place when he tried to enter the Dominican Republic through the border crossing of the Dajabón province on the same Wednesday with passport number R-10885350. An international arrest warrant had been issued against him for his link to the assassination of the Haitian president.

Tanis was handed over to the Haitian Police in Dominican territory in front of members of that nation’s press, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Haitian consulate in Dajabón and other organizations.

The Dominican authorities said the detainee was handed over under legal certification to the Divisional Inspector of the Ouanaminthe Police Station, Mesidor Romiald, and to the agent of the Departmental Service of the Haitian Judicial Police (SDPJ) of Cap Haitien, Enmanuel Joseph.
