Canada donates cold storage for Covid-19 vaccines

The Global Affairs Canada, a Canadian government agency, donated modern refrigerated capacity to store Covid-19 vaccines in the Dominican Republic. The donation was received through the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO-WHO). The assistance has a value of US$400,000. The storage capacity is made up of two cold storage chambers and 20 refrigerators that will be sent to 20 vaccination centers to provide access to the vaccines in Haiti-Dominican Republic border vaccination centers. This will facilitate the distribution of the Pfizer vaccines that require ultra-cold storage.

During the delivery, the representative of the PAHO in the Dominican Republic, Olivier Ronveaux highlighted the importance of the donation to the country’s collective health.

Canadian general consul Collin Holditch represented the Canadian government during the event.

Dr. Eladio Perez, deputy minister of Public Health, received the donation for the Ministry of Public Health. Nicole Batlle, director of the PAI, the Ministry of Public Health’s immunization program, was also present.
