
In only two days, seven cruise ships brought 11,700 visitors to Amber Cove and Taíno Bay port terminals in Puerto Plata. With the crew, some 6,967, the total of cruise ship arrivals that docked at the two Puerto Plata passenger ports reached 18,667 visitors on just 9 and 10 Marc
At the Amber Cove terminal, on Wednesday 9 March, the ships Nieuw Statendam with 1,082 passengers and 843 crew members and Regal Princess with 2,632 tourists and 1,217 crew members arrived in the morning hours.
That same day, Taino Bay port received Celebrity Millenium with 950 visitors and 772 crew. Minutes later, the Seven Seas Splendor arrived with 552 passengers and 553 crew members.
The following day, Thursday, three other ships arrived at both ports, the huge Carnival Magic brought 3,653 tourists and 1,232 crew members arriving at Amber Cove. The others were the MSC Seashore that brought 1,763 foreigners and the Norwegian Dawn brought 1,068 cruisers, on routes from Florida and other United States coastal destinations.
The provincial director of the Ministry of Tourism in Puerto Plata, Stephanie Kfouri said the arrival of the cruise ships is placing Puerto Plata on the world map as one of the leading Caribbean destinations. She stressed the historical, cultural, gastronomic attractions of Puerto Plata and the hospitality of its people.
She also spoke of the POP Cultural Fest in Puerto Plata. This cultural and artistic project is organized by the Ministry of Tourism working with the Tourism Cluster of the province, with the support of the Mayor’s Office, the Governor’s Office and the Ministry of Culture with events scheduled for the Central Park.
Cultural Fest POP continues until 20 March as a stage for artists, painters, cultural groups and carnival characters of Puerto Plata to show their creations, an event carried out to stimulate tourism and the active integration of the community.
