Two Swiss pilots, Robin and Matt, who are flying around the world to motivate a greener aviation, landed on Friday, 25 March 2022 at the Catey International Airport in Samana. They are flying their 5-seater Diamond DA50 RG aircraft.
The pilots scheduled a day landing at 1pm to allow aeronautical and airport authorities and pilots of Dominican aeroclubs to be present for the landing of an aircraft using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) with zero carbon emissions through green initiatives and technologies.
Diamondo Earthrounding, a non-profit initiative, driven by a team of nine young aviators, visits multiple airports to connect global efforts and sustainable aviation projects and raise awareness about these technologies and how to use them.
One such voluntary solution promoted by this partnership is the “Book and Claim” platform of its partner, Jet Aviation. “Book and Claim” allows commercial and private aviation customers to purchase UAS worldwide, regardless of where they refuel their aircraft.
“Since the current availability of SAF is limited to US and European airports, it is essential that consumers be able to purchase SAF globally through these schemes,” Matt says.
He explains that by making SAF available to operators regardless of their location, Jet Aviation’s “Book and Claim” solution helps drive demand for alternative fuels from the bottom up. In addition, SAF’s carbon reduction potential can be further exploited when the logistics involved in production and distribution are kept short.
Since its departure, the Diamond’s journey has completed stopovers to initiatives in Austria, the United Arab Emirates and India, then crossed the Pacific via Palau, Guam, the Marshall Islands and Hawaii, California, USA, and Mexico.
