Vinci Airports CEO: DR was best at handling Covid-19

Vinci Concessions CEO and president of Vinci Airports, Nicolas Notebaert, praised President Luis Abinader when attending the inauguration of the modernization of the central atrium at Las Americas International Airport. President Luis Abinader was present for the official inauguration of the €14 million renovations. In his remarks, Notebaert praised President Abinader for his government’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. He said it was the best performance among the 53 countries in which Vinci does business.

Notebaert also remarked: “The good recovery of air traffic in Las Americas airport demonstrates the effective cooperation between Vinci Airports and the public authorities of the Dominican Republic. Along with our 250 airline partners, we will keep supporting touristic development, and modernizing Las Americas airport as an important step of our long term commitment”.

Travelers arriving to the Las Americas International Airport (SDQ), the main gateway to Santo Domingo, will notice the effort to modernize, optimize and improve travelers’ experience. The outbound migration and security services were relocated and modernized. Six new restaurants were added and new duty free shops.

In addition, a new vertical circulation building was built, with two elevators and escalators. 18 passport control stations and two Autogate stations were added.

Also, offices and inspection areas, a new security area with 6 stations, trace detection machines and a secondary inspection area.

The renovated terminal will feature the introduction of the Call to Gate system to avoid crowded passenger flows at the gates.

Vinci Airports also handles the La Isabela airport in northern Santo Domingo and the Puerto Plata (Gregorio Luperón), Samana (El Catey and Arroyo Barril), Barahona (María Montez) international airports in the Dominican Republic.

Monika Infante, head of the Vinci Airports operation in the country, was the host for the event.
