The Santo Domingo book fair opens Friday, 22 April 2022 in the Colonial City with activities open to the general public from 23 April through Monday, 2 May. A lot of the historic center is being shut down to traffic to prepare for the major cultural event.
The Ministry of Culture is working closely with the National Institute for Transit and Transport (Intrant) to move things along smoothly. In preparation, as of Monday, 18 April, Las Damas and Isabel la Catolica will be closed to traffic between Padre Billini and Las Mercedes streets. There will be some traffic, as organizers are issuing access passes to residents and merchants.These streets will be semi-pedestrian areas for the duration of the fair.
Ministry of Culture officials told reporters that every effort is being taken so that residents, commercial establishments and hotels to go about their regular activities without interruptions.
