Ivan Tovar and the Flying Fox; new attractions in the Colonial City

The Ivan Tovar Immersive Experience, the Alcazar, Maritime Museum and The Flying Fox are now all within a short block in the Colonial City. The Ivan Tovar Surrealism Exhibition is Santo Domingo’s first Immersive Experience, the 3D exhibit of the paintings, drawings and sculptures by Ivan Tovar, one of the top Dominican artists. He lived and worked most of his career in Paris, France.

Also off Plaza España in the Colonial City, check out the Alcazar, the Diego Colón Palace and the Maritime Museum, the Telecom Museum, and Casas Reales Museum, all within a short block. All these exhibitions are doable on rainy days.

And then, take photos of the mega-luxury yacht belonging to Russian oligarch Dimitri Kamenshchik, docked on the Colonial City side of the Ozama River. The Flying Fox, is still tied up at the wharf on the Ozama River after it was searched by personnel from both the USA Homeland Security Agency and agents from the Customs Agency of the Dominican Republic. The beautiful vessel has become a tourist attraction, and people go there to take photographs of the yacht that has a helicopter on its highest deck.

Diario Libre reports that the yacht appears to be registered to Tarcoma Marine S.A., a company created by the now-infamous group of Panamanian lawyers, Mossack Fonseca & Company. This is the firm made famous by the Panama Papers scandal. The firm was signaled out for creating thousands of offshore companies for many said to be laundering money and avoiding taxes from all over the world.

As the boat closes in on a one-month stay in Santo Domingo, the cost has been estimated at over a million dollars.
