Government shuts down major agencies

The Abinader administration has eliminated or merged nine government agencies so far in this administration, as reported in N Digital. The government recently announced the effective shutdown of the State Sugar Council (CEA) that oversaw the lands belonging to the old, state-owned, sugar mills. The CEA also controlled a huge number of cattle under the aegis of Cea-Ganado, where the animals that were used to haul sugarcane from the fields to the mills or the railroad.

Others that have been eliminated are the Central Agency for Anti-Narcotics of the National Police (DICAN) that was merged with the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD).

Also on the way out is the curiously-named CDEEE (the Dominican Corporation of State-owned Electricity Enterprises). The Presidency created a nine-member board to administer the Edes (North, South and East) and to be chaired by the Minister of Energy and Mines.

The billionaire projects of the Office of the First Lady is no more. Also shut down is the infamous OISOE, the Office of Supervising Engineers for State Projects.
