Visiting Los Alcarrizos on Sunday, 24 April 2022, President Luis Abinader said that the sky lift under construction to connect that northern Santo Domingo community to the capital city (via the Santo Domingo Metro) should be in operation by December 2022. The cable car construction has advanced 40%.
The cable car will have a capacity to transport 4,500 passengers per hour in each direction. It will have four stations along a 4.2 km route. It is planned to reduce from 1.5 hours to 12 minutes the travel time during rush hour for Los Alcarrizos and nearby residents to connect with the Santo Domingo Metro Line 2 extension. The new Santo Domingo Metro Line is under construction to Km 9 of the Duarte highway.
The President supervised the sky lift project. He said the works to extend the Santo Domingo Metro Line 2 to northern Santo Domingo would be completed in 22 months.
