Will the DR host Miss Universe 2022? Andreina Martinez to represent DR in next Miss Universe

25-year old Andreina Martinez Fournier, winner of the 2021 Miss Universe will represent the Dominican Republic in the 71st edition of the contest. Martinez is one of the earliest contestants to be official for the pageant.

The place and date of the 2022 Miss Universe pageant are yet to be announced. The 2021 event took place in Israel in December.

Martínez was not able to attend the 2021 contest after testing positive for Covid-19 just before she was scheduled to travel to the pageant. The Dominican Republic was represented at the event by runner-up Debbie Áflalo, who coincidentally was the daughter of an Israeli father who lives in Israel.

Born in Santiago de los Caballeros, Martinez migrated to New York where she graduated as a psychologist from City College. She coordinates the “Women’s Equality Center” in New York. She has modeled for the NYFashion Week.

Her profile on Linkedin states that she is an experienced academic tutor with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry.

Glam Star magazine says Tourism Minister David Collado has met with the organizers of the pageant to talk about the Dominican Republic hosting the event, as reported in Diario Libre. Diario Libre reports the talks are about the 71th edition of the pageant (2022), but then headlined the talks are about Miss Universe 2023.
