Last month saw the start up of the geophysical studies related to the creation of the Manzanillo mega port. The port is the closest to the United States. Actual construction is expected to start in February 2023.
The new wharf and port facilities will be capable of receiving ships of up to 40,000 tons. The main construction will be the wharf of over 220 meters in length. All port facilities will be rebuilt. Significant improvements will be made for the access to the port.
Also included in the package is a shipyard, an industrial free zone, a power generation plant, and a natural gas receiving station. The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a US$100 million loan for the project and the National Congress has given its approval.
