Modern fishermen’s pier to be built in Boca de Yuma

The Dominican Port Authority broke ground for the construction of the Boca de Yuma fishermen’s pier. Boca de Yuma is a fishermen town, especially popular with locals for its seafood and dancing parlors.

Jean Luis Rodríguez, director of the Port Authority, says that the initiative is carried out to renew and promote the fishing activity, boost the local economy, and create of new sources of employment.

The RD$22 million rehabilitation of the wharf includes the breakwater and an area for the docking of fishing boats.

The Dominican Port Authority has also undertaken the construction of the Luperón fishing pier in Puerto Plata as part of the National Plan for the Construction and Remodeling of Fishing Docks. In addition to Boca de Yuma and Luperón docks, others that will be improved or built are those in Miches, Río San Juan, Nagua, La Caleta, La Romana, Hato Mayor, Cabeza de Toro, Punta Cana, Las Terrenas and Samaná city.
