The Senate of the Republic approved the second reading of the bill that establishes the applicable regime for the Regulation of Public Trusts in the country, an initiative submitted by the Executive Branch.
The purpose of the bill is to regulate public trusts, their organization, structure and operation, and the legal capacity of these to administer public resources and provide, manage and/or execute works and projects of infrastructure or services of collective interest.
The Abinader administration is pushing forward public-private alliances. The bill would provide the legal framework for these. The bill seeks to regularize the public-private trust contracts the Abinader administration has since taking office in 2020. As reported in El Caribe, President Luis Abinader has authorized the creation of 14 trusts: 12 by decrees and two by resolutions, so there are 11 of them not yet enacted.
The bill now moves to the Chamber of Deputies for approval.
