Tourism reports on new record in arrivals in May 2022

The Ministry of Tourism reported May 2022 broke a new record of arrivals for the month in Dominican tourism history. The country is on an upward trend as travelers return in droves to vacationing again.

Tourism Minister David Collado announced on Wednesday, 1 June 2022 a new record of 561,323 tourists for May, traditionally a slow month in arrivals.

“That means that we registered a growth of 11% over May 2018, 6% more than in 2019 and we surpassed by 44% last May’s numbers,” said the official in his now traditional monthly press conference when the results of the sector’s performance were released.

Arrivals for the past twelve months are now at 6,459,738 non-resident visitors.

Breaking down the 561,323 arrivals in May 2022, Collado said that 453,371 were foreigners. This number is 2% more than in 2019 and 4% more than in 2018.

The month of May also registered growth in cruise arrivals that were 82,199, 3% more than in the same month in 2019.
