“The policy of liberalization of the air travel market promoted by the government seeks to make passenger and cargo traffic even more open and competitive,” says Jose Ernesto Marte Piantini, president of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC).
During the first four months of 2022, the Dominican Republic set a record, moving 5,160,661 passengers by air in and out of the country. Air travel for the first quarter of the year was half of that transported in all of 2021, says Marte Piantini.
The statistics indicate 17,638,644 passengers flew to and from Dominican Republic by air from 17 August 2020 to 30 April 2022.
The president of the JAC explains that these record numbers are the result of the open skies policy implemented by the government. Open skies seek to increase the number of airlines, frequencies and routes to and from the Dominican Republic.
“The policy of liberalization of the air market promoted by the government seeks to make it more open and competitive for passenger and cargo traffic,” said the president of the JAC when speaking to a general assembly of the JAC last month.
