
The Clara Elena Ramírez International Dance Festival is booked at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Santo Domingo with performances on 24, 25 an 26 June 2022. The event is in its second year and honors the memory of the legendary Cuban dance professor who taught many of the best dancers in the Dominican Republic.
The dance festival is divided into the opening and closing international gala performance, two performances of the Danza Clara Elena Ramirez competition (with semifinal and final) and two days of intensive dance workshops.
“Our missions and objectives are to channel and make visible the new dance talents, cultivate and motivate unity within the Dominican dance community through competitions and meetings, and bring dance to every corner of our country in all its styles,” says Isadora Bruno, director and artistic producer of the Clara Elena Ramirez International Dance Festival.
The second edition will feature the international participation of Sherly Belliard and Lukasz Ozga, dancers of the Wroclawska Opera Ballet, Poland; the Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico and Flavio González from Chile. The Dominican dancers performing are the Ballet Concierto Dominicano Company, Roberto López, Coda Sti., Iván Tejada, Cindy Sosa, Pablo Pérez and Joel Rodríguez.
The workshops that are on the program are:
“Progressing Ballet Technique PBT” with American Alejandra Dore;
Classical Ballet” with Italian teacher Claudia Zaccari;
“Conversatorio El Desarrollo de la Técnica del Ballet Clásico en la Región del Cibao”, with the director of the Contemporary Ballet and Armando Villamil Company, Alfa Rodriguez and guests from other schools in the northern region;
“Contemporary Jazz” with the French Katto Ribeiro and Marsella;
Repertorio Variaciones Clásicas” with Sherly Belliard and Luckasz Oszga;
“Contempo Fusión” with Chilean Flavio González;
“Ballet Clásico / Repertorio” with Mexican Mara Thompson.
On the program for 26 June is “Ballet Clásico” with Victor Gili, director of Ballet Concierto Puerto Rico. Also “Encuentro Bailarinas del Siglo 21” with Sherly Belliard, Diana Dopico, Yeira Genao, Dulce Suriel, Karla Espaillat and Yeri Peguero; “Danza Urbana / Reggaeton” with Chilean Flavio González and “Fitting Zapatillas de Punta” by Sodanca.
For the contestants, there will be two warm-up classes included in their package with Claudia Zaccari and Roberto Lopez.
For the dance competition, dancers and choreographers will be assessed by an international jury headed by Claudia Zaccari, Prima Ballerina of the Opera Theater of Rome in Italy and representative of the Sodanca Brand in the world.
She will be joined by Victor Gili, artistic director of Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico; Alejandra Dore, certified teacher of the Vaganova method, ABT National Training Curriculum and PBT of the Dominican Republic; Katto Ribeiro, Choreographer and teacher in Marseille, France; Sherly Belliard, dancer of the Wroclawska Opera Ballet, Poland; Lukasz Ozga, soloist dancer of the Wroclawska Opera Ballet, Poland; Flavio González, choreographer and urban and contemporary dancer from Chile; Mara Thompson, dancer of the American Ballet Theatre.
Participants in the event can win scholarships to prestigious schools in Latin America, Europe and USA. These scholarships are being donated by the Sodanca Brand through Maestra Claudia Zaccari.
