Vaccines expire in October, not July

The Ministry of Public Health says that Pfizer pharmaceutical company has extended the duration of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines through 30 October 2022. The batch of vaccines would have expired on 31 July 2022. Public Health Minister Daniel Rivera announced during the Wednesday, 29 June 2022 press conference that the Food and Drug Administration agency of the United States government approved the extension.

“According to the favorable results of the stability studies of the Pfizer Biotech RNA vaccine against Covid-19, Pfizer has obtained the approval of the FDA to extend for three months the useful life of the vaccine,” Dr. Rivera said during the weekly meeting with the press. He says this applies to the batch of vaccines in use in the United States, Panama and Costa Rica.

Sinovac and Pfizer vaccines are available here for children and adults. Pfizer booster shots are available for adults. The government recommends a third booster shot for all and a fourth for those over 50 years old or with health issues.
