
Dominican athletes won 72 medals, including 19 gold in the recently concluded Bolivarian Games in Valledupar, Colombia. The Dominican Republic had won 68 medals when the games were held in 2017.
Dominican athletes won gold in track and field, boxing, judo, karate, swimming, table tennis, horse riding, softball, gymnastics, skeet and water skiing.
Of the 11 participating countries, the Dominican Republic ended in sixth place, behind Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. The DR team did better than Guatemala, Paraguay, Panama, El Salvador and Bolivia.
Swimmer Krystal Denisse Lara Garzon delivered four medals, including two gold medals, for 200 m freestyle and 100 m fly. Robert King Demorizi delivered two gold medals to make the Bolivarian Games top athletes list.
The Bolivarian Games are a regional multi-sport event held in honor of Simón Bolívar, and organized by the Bolivarian Sports Organization (Odebo). The 2022 Bolivarian Games took place 24 June to 5 July. It is the fifth time the event is held in Colombia. Odebo countries are: Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, Venezuela. El Salvador, Guatemala, Paraguay and Dominican Republic are invited to participate in the games.
