Wilson Camacho: RD$1 billion in bribes to get contract work at the Attorney General Office

The accusatory file establishes that the outcome of the big procurement tenders carried out by the Attorney General Office under former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodriguez were decided beforehand. The “winners” committed to pay at least 20% for the privilege. Chief prosecutor Wilson Camacho is talking about RD$1 billion in paid bribes.

With the presentation of charges on Saturday, 2 July 2022 for the so-named Medusa Operation, state prosecutors accuse the former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez Sánchez and accomplices of directing major corruption schemes.

In the case, many close associates of Rodríguez Sánchez seem to have skipped ship and are instead sharing details to help the prosecutors build a stronger case against the former authorities at the Attorney General Office. The contracting under investigation is vast and diversified. It covered from meals for prisoners around the country to the construction of jails.

The media is focusing on how the right hand of Rodríguez Sánchez, Rafael Canó Sacco has not been included in the accusations. He is at present in Spain, awaiting for his extradition to the Dominican Republic. There is speculation that he will be a key witness in the case against the former Attorney General.
