Monkeypox patient recovers; no other cases reported

The Ministry of Public Health and the Ramon de Lara Military Teaching Hospital in a Friday, 8 July 2022 update, said the Dominican Republic’s first monkeypox case patient is evolving satisfactorily. The patient is stable and does not have fever, fatigue or other complications.

During a press conference, Public Health Minister Daniel Rivera and physician Jose Dario Richardson said the 25-year old is under the care of infectologist, Dr. José Ureña Vázquez. He said the patient shows only some rashes in several areas of his body, but nothing like the photos presented of the disease in other countries. Dr. Rivera says no other case has been reported. The people who were in close contact to the patient have been evaluated, but do not show any signs of the disease.
