
The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) announces intense aviation activity in the first half of the year. Jose Ernesto Marte Piantini, head of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), says air operations were up 37% this year compared to January-June 2021. There were 15,986 more commercial flights, including 7,998 more inbound flights and 7,998 outbound flights. Overall, there were 42,777 air operations.
The three most active airports are Las Americas International (SDQ), serving the capital city area; Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), serving the Punta Cana resort destination area; and the Cibao International Airport (STI), serving the Santiago and the northern Cibao region.
The five main air destinations to and from where the Dominican Republic had the most connections from January-June 2022 are New York, Miami, and Newark in the United States; Toronto (Canada) and Tocumen (Panama), primarily for connections.
Marte Piantini reported increases in air cargo movement for the months of January-May 2022 with 14.2 million kilograms in imports and 39.8 million kilograms in exports.
Compared to last year’s cargo figures, both exports and imports have shown significant growth. Exports increased at a rate of 68%, and imports grew 23%, compared to cargo figures for the first five months of 2021.
