Carlos Veitía is new National Theater director

Best known for his successful career as a dance choreographer and classic ballet dancer, Carlos Veitía was sworn in last week by Culture Minister Milagros Germán as the new general director of the National Theater.

Veitía had been appointed to the position by President Luis Abinader, through Decree 381-22 dated 14 July 2022. He replaces actor Carlos Espinal.

Carlos Veitía is the founder of Ballet Concierto Dominicano, the country’s most successful ballet company. He has directed the National Dominican Ballet for three years, receiving the highest praise. His work has been awarded on numerous occasions, both nationally and internationally.

In 1995 he was selected as the Classical Choreographer of the American Continent, receiving the Kennedy Center’s Fellowship of the Americas Award.

His choreographies have been staged in many countries, including the United States, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Spain, Ecuador, Suriname, Peru, Martinique and Cuba.
