Ministry of Housing to build jails in DR

The Attorney General Office made official the passing of responsibilities to build jails to the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Constructions (Ministerio de la Vivienda, Hábitat y Edificaciones – MIVHED).

Attorney General Miriam German Brito praised the agreement signed with Carlos Bonilla Sanchez, head of the MIVHED, during a ceremony held in his office in the presence of the general administrative director of the Public Ministry, Vilma Perez, and the legal director, Frinette Padilla.

The agreement establishes that the state agency will work to build the correction and rehabilitation centers, in compliance with Law 160-21 that created the Ministry of Housing and taking into account its budgetary availability and financial resources.

The Attorney General Office must provide the Ministry of Housing with copies of the plans of each of the constructions underway or planned, the costs or financial status of the works and the pending payments, as well as copies of the observations regarding each of the works already started and the list of the contractors with their corresponding contractual documents.

In addition, a copy of the procurement processes for works already started and which are in the process of completion were awarded must be submitted. It was also agreed the MIVHED would work jointly with the Attorney General Offic to determine the institutional priorities for the construction of new correction and rehabilitation centers, and their locations according to the corresponding licenses or authorizations and in accordance with the criteria established by law.
