There is serious doubts the court hall will be large enough. The Public Prosecutors Office has accused 41 persons and 22 companies in the corruption in the Attorney General Office case. The main accused is former 47-year old Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez Sánchez. Among the accused are several contemporaries of his from very wealthy Dominican families which has increased the notoriety of this government corruption case.
The Third Court of Instruction of the National District notified on Monday, 25 July 2022 that the preliminary trial to present the accusations in the Medusa case is set for 12 August 2022 at 9am.
The delivery of the documents and evidence deposited by the Public Prosecutor’s Office is taking place in the courtroom of the First Collegiate Court of the National District, which is the largest in the Palace of Justice of Ciudad Nueva. There are doubts the court will be large enough for the many lawyers, defendants and representatives of the accused companies.
By order No. 059-2022-TFIJ-00112 dated 22 July 2022, the head magistrate of the Third Collegiate Court, Amauri Marcos Martínez Abreu, scheduled the case to open in courtroom of the Civil and Commercial Court of Appeal of the National District, located in the Palace of Justice of the Courts located in the Center of the Heroes of Constanza, Maimón and Estero Hondo.
During the first phase of the trial, the judges will determine if there is sufficient evidence to send the defendants to trial on the merits or if not, an order of dismissal will be issued. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has assembled a file with more than 12,000 pages.
