Senate does not yet pass Extinction of Domain Bill

Despite the example of the two-day passing of the Extinction of Domain Bill in the Chamber of Deputies, when the bill and its 37 amendments reached the floor of the Senate, senators said “no” to fast-tracking the passing of the bill. The bill has been dilly-dallying in Congress since 2011. It has the backing of President Luis Abinader.

During the Monday, 25 July 2022 session, the senators approved to take 24 hours to study the amendments made in the Chamber of Deputies. These include a grace period of a year to train judges and staff to deal with the new regulations and to make other changes.

The senators agreed to extend the regular legislative period and meet on Wednesday, 27 July to discuss the bill on the floor.
