Relatives and friends of Gregores Alexander Méndez Torres are counting the days for his return to Monseñor Nouel province. A party is planned to celebrate his return. Diario Libre reports it is likely the party will be able to take place on this Friday, 12 August 2022.
With a rice and salami (locrio) and a party with the orchestra of Hector Acosta (El Torito). El Torito is a former legislator for Monseñor Nouel province.
Gregores lives with his 77-year old grandmother Regina Martinez and a six year old daughter. His grandmother raised Gregores. His mother left the country to live abroad when he was a young child.
Diario Libre reports that his cell phone is cared for by his cousin, Yameli. Yameli became famous when among the first things Gregores said once he had access to a cell phone underground was that his mobile was in his backpack and he was told Yameli had it.
Gregores was accompanied at the hospital by his sister, Harlin Méndez Torres and said that for the first 24 hours, her brother did not have access to electronic devices, as per recommendations of the specialists taking care of him at the military hospital, as reported in Diario Libre.
As reported in El Dia, Mendez Torres is reconsidering his life and has plans to take some days off. He says he would like to travel to Colombia taking up an offer of his 10-day tunnel companion, Colombian worker Carlos Yepes.
Mendez Torres told El Dia that the mining company has told Mendez and Yepes that they can take up to a year’s rest before returning to work, receiving their salaries. Mendez ssays he is willing to return to work at the mine, “but not in the cave”. Mendez Torres says the two workers received the visit of Paul Marinko, president of Cormidom at the hospital on Wednesday, 10 August.
“I already have a year in that company. I know the processes and I can assume any position, but upstairs,” said the young man, who says he is desperate to be discharged from the hospital to be with his family to La Quebradita, in Cotuí. He said he must fulfill a few promises made by his relatives who prayed for his life. He said he will go to church.
