The US Customs and Border Protection reported on the seizing of cocaine hidden in the technical space of a passenger airplane that arrived at Philadelphia International Airport from the Dominican Republic on 12 August 2022. The cocaine weighed 41 pounds and had street value of about US$1.3 million. At the time of the announcement, no arrests were made.

During a flight search from Santo Domingo, CBP officers discovered 16 brick-shaped objects concealed under a blanket in an avionics technical space. Officers extracted the bricks and took them to CBP’s inspection station after they completed the aircraft inspection. The white, powdery substance tested positive for cocaine.

A press release from the Customs and Border Protection said the aircraft had made passenger service stops at domestic airports in New York City, Miami, San Diego, and Philadelphia before arriving from Santo Domingo on the three previous days to the drug confiscation operation in Philadelphia.

CBP officers and agents report seizing an average of 4,732 pounds of dangerous drugs every day at US air and seaports.
